Here are the Frequently Asked Questions for 2017. If you have one that’s not answered below, drop us a line using the contact form.
I live in Salford. Can I enter?
Yes. The Challenge is open to anyone living in the UK, with the only condition being that you have to have visited a public work of art on display in the Liverpool City Region (Wirral, Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens, Knowsley, and Halton) between 30th September and 29th October 2017 to pick a work of art to write a song about.
I can’t make it to the Entry Event on the afternoon of Saturday 30th September. Can I still enter?
Of course you can. Entry details will be available on the website for those who can’t make it on 30th September. You will have to visit the Liverpool City Region (Wirral, Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens, Knowsley, and Halton) at another time (with camera). Just remember to submit a photo of your chosen work of art along with the recorded song and a copy of the lyrics.
I can’t make it to the Showcase Final on 13th January 2018 at Leaf. Can I still enter?
If a song is chosen to go through to the Showcase Final but the songwriter(s)s cannot attend, they can nominate other musicians to play their song on their behalf. If they can’t do this then the recording of their song will be played for the audience to listen to.
I can write songs but I’m not a particularly gifted performer. Will this go against me?
No. All the submitted songs will be judged on their own merits – the level of performance will not be a factor. Obviously the recording of your song submission should be as clear as possible so that the judges can hear the lyrics and music, but it’s the songwriting that will be judged.
I haven’t got a SoundCloud account. Can I still submit a song?
Setting up a SoundCloud account is easy to do if you haven’t already got one, and it’s free too. However, if you’d prefer not to use SoundCloud you’ll still be able to submit your song by email.
